Environment and Climate Change Canada has confirmed that at least three tornadoes touched down in Manitoba during a severe thunderstorm on Tuesday. The storms swept through parts of the province, leaving a trail of damage but no immediate reports of injuries.
Meteorologists with ECCC tracked the tornadoes as they formed in the afternoon and evening hours. The first tornado was reported near the town of Oakville, while two others touched down in rural areas south of Winnipeg. Damage assessments are ongoing, but early reports indicate downed trees, damaged power lines, and structural damage to some farm buildings.
ECCC officials said the tornadoes were part of a larger storm system that brought heavy rain, hail, and strong winds to much of southern Manitoba. Power outages affected thousands of residents as crews worked to restore electricity.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant as more thunderstorms are expected in the coming days. ECCC continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as necessary.
