Toronto is set to experience below-seasonal temperatures as the first official week of summer gets underway, according to a report by Chris Fox published June 22, 2026. The city, which typically sees warmer conditions at this time of year, will face a cooler-than-normal pattern that may extend for several days.
Temperature Outlook
Environment Canada forecasts that daytime highs will remain several degrees below the seasonal average of 25°C, with temperatures expected to hover around 18°C to 20°C. Nighttime lows could drop to 10°C, well below the typical June minimum of 15°C. The cooler conditions are attributed to a lingering cold front from the north, which is expected to persist through the weekend.
“This is unusual for late June, but not unprecedented,” said a meteorologist from Environment Canada. “Residents should prepare for unseasonably cool weather and possibly some rain.”
Impact on Residents and Activities
The below-seasonal temperatures may affect outdoor plans, including Canada Day celebrations and summer festivals. Toronto’s public health officials advise residents to dress in layers and monitor weather updates. The cooler weather could also delay the opening of some outdoor pools and affect local agriculture, according to the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture.
“We’re advising people to check forecasts daily and adjust their plans accordingly,” a city spokesperson said. “The cooler weather is a reminder that summer weather can be unpredictable.”
Broader Weather Context
This temperature anomaly comes as parts of Europe experience a severe heat wave, with France restricting public alcohol consumption and outdoor sports. Meanwhile, cooler overnight temperatures have helped firefighters near Lytton, British Columbia, but temperatures are expected to climb again. In Toronto, the cooler trend is expected to last until at least mid-week before gradually warming.
