Psychedelic Furs Cancel Calgary Folk Fest Show

The Psychedelic Furs have cancelled their performance at the Calgary Folk Music Festival, citing a serious medical issue. The band announced the news via an Instagram post, explaining that all tour dates scheduled for spring and summer have been called off.

Festival Responds to Cancellation

Kerry Clarke, artistic director of the Calgary Folk Music Festival, expressed disappointment but emphasized the importance of the artist's health. “We’re always sorry when this happens, we wish the artists well,” Clarke said. “It’s always disappointing for the artists and for us, but mostly we have to think about the health of the artist.”

Replacement and Future Plans

The festival is actively seeking a replacement act and expects to announce one as soon as possible. Organizers have already reached out to several artists and hope to confirm a new performer within the next week. Additionally, the Psychedelic Furs are tentatively scheduled to join the festival in 2027.

“We’ve done this before, we’ve had artists cancel and we find replacements,” Clarke noted. “We appreciate the people who understand that artists are human and sometimes things happen and we are doing our best to fill the spot.”

Fans who purchased single-day tickets for Sunday, July 26, can request a refund by emailing hello@calgaryfolkfest.com with the subject line “Psychedelic Furs refund” by Friday, May 15, at 11:59 p.m.

Festival Lineup and Details

The Calgary Folk Music Festival will take place at Prince’s Island Park from July 23 to 26. The main stage lineup includes Grammy-winning bassist Thundercat, Icelandic rockers Of Monsters and Men, Black Pumas co-founder Adrian Quesada, and Alberta country star Corb Lund. Other headliners are Valerie June, Goldie Boutilier, and Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives.

Despite the cancellation, organizers remain optimistic about the festival's success and are working diligently to ensure a memorable experience for attendees.
