Oklahoma Party Shooting Leaves 23 Injured, Suspects Still at Large
Authorities in Oklahoma are searching for suspects following a weekend shooting at a lakeside party that left at least 23 people injured, some critically. The incident occurred Sunday evening at a gathering near Scissortail Campground at Arcadia Lake, a popular recreational area outside Oklahoma City.
Police reported that no arrests have been made yet. The party, which was not a permitted or reserved event, was advertised on social media and attracted many young adults from the Oklahoma City area.
Injuries and Hospital Response
At least 18 individuals were transported to hospitals. Three victims are in critical condition, and four others are listed as serious. Integris Health treated 13 people at its hospitals in Edmond and Oklahoma City, with seven remaining at Baptist Medical Center, including three in critical condition. OU Health received five patients at its trauma center but did not provide further details.
Witness Jason Hearne told ABC News he was nearby when the shooting began. He saw people with gunshot wounds to the legs and a young woman with a head wound who was still breathing. “These kids came out to have a, probably a good time, and for this to break out, I know that wasn’t what they expected, and it’s just tragic,” he said.
Historical Context
The shooting brings back dark memories for Edmond, which was the site of one of the deadliest workplace shootings in U.S. history. On August 20, 1986, postal worker Patrick Sherrill shot 20 co-workers, killing 14, before taking his own life.
Authorities continue to investigate and are urging anyone with information to come forward. The community is in shock as they grapple with yet another act of gun violence.
