Bernie Kosar's Liver Transplant Canceled Due to Infected Donor Organ
Bernie Kosar's Liver Transplant Canceled, Needs Prayers

Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar is facing a serious health crisis after his scheduled liver transplant was abruptly canceled when doctors discovered the donor organ was infected.

Urgent Medical Situation Unfolds

The NFL legend, who led the Browns to three AFC championship games during his career, took to social media from his Cleveland hospital bed to share the devastating news. Kosar revealed he underwent "two aggressive procedures" on Wednesday to stop internal bleeding and was preparing for a third procedure on Thursday.

"Man, all the duress right now," Kosar said in an emotional video posted from his hospital room. "I could really use your love, support and actual prayers today." The 61-year-old former quarterback didn't hide the severity of his condition, telling Fox 8 in a separate interview that "my body is failing."

Longstanding Health Battles

Kosar's current medical emergency comes after he publicly disclosed last year that he suffers from cirrhosis of the liver and Parkinson's disease. The former University of Miami national championship winner has been open about his journey as a recovering alcoholic, which has contributed to his liver condition.

The Youngstown, Ohio native enjoyed an impressive NFL career spanning from 1985 to 1996, primarily with the Cleveland Browns but also including stints with the Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins. Kosar threw for 23,301 yards and 124 touchdowns during his professional football career, establishing himself as one of the most beloved players in Browns history.

Community Support and Ongoing Treatment

Despite the setback with his transplant surgery, Kosar maintained a positive outlook in his social media posts. "Grateful for all the thoughts and prayers," he wrote alongside his hospital bed video. "I am in the hospital getting some care and keeping that fighter's spirit strong."

The father of four children with his ex-wife continues to receive treatment at the Cleveland medical facility while awaiting a new opportunity for transplant surgery. Fans and former teammates have flooded social media with messages of support for the football icon during this challenging health battle.
