German Pediatrician Charged with 130 Child Sex Abuse Counts

A pediatrician in Germany has been formally charged with 130 counts of child sexual abuse, prosecutors confirmed on Wednesday. The case has sent shockwaves through the country, as the accused is alleged to have abused dozens of children over several years.

Details of the Charges

The suspect, whose name has not been released due to German privacy laws, was arrested earlier this year. According to the indictment, the abuse took place between 2015 and 2024 at multiple medical facilities where the pediatrician worked. The victims, ranging in age from 2 to 14 years old, were often under the guise of medical examinations.

Prosecutors in the city of Cologne stated that the charges include 100 counts of sexual abuse of children and 30 counts of aggravated sexual assault. In addition, the accused faces charges of producing and possessing child pornography.

Investigation and Arrest

The investigation began after a parent reported suspicious behavior. Police subsequently seized electronic devices from the doctor's home and practice, uncovering thousands of illicit images and videos. Authorities believe the suspect may have recorded the abuse.

“This is one of the most horrific cases we have seen in recent years,” said a spokesperson for the Cologne prosecutor's office. “Our priority is to ensure justice for the victims and their families.”

The pediatrician has been in custody since his arrest in February 2025. He has not yet entered a plea, and his defense lawyer has declined to comment publicly.

National Outcry

The case has reignited debates about child protection and medical oversight in Germany. Parents and advocacy groups are calling for stricter background checks and monitoring of healthcare professionals who work with children.

“We need to ensure that such crimes are prevented in the future,” said a representative of a child protection organization. “Trust in doctors is essential, and this case has broken that trust.”

The trial is expected to begin later this year. If convicted, the pediatrician faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
