In a spectacular display of community support, over 800 guests gathered at The International Centre on Friday, November 14, for the Sapphire Soirée, celebrating the 10th anniversary of Humber River Health's Wilson Site. The event was not just a celebration but a powerful fundraising success, generating over $2.55 million to propel the hospital into its next decade.
A Night of Celebration and Generosity
The evening was filled with memorable moments, beginning with a surprise headliner performance by The Tenors, a gift for the anniversary that brought the entire audience to its feet. Cheryl Hickey served as the evening's emcee, while Fred Lee energized the crowd during the pivotal Fund-a-Need segment. The entertainment continued with a moving performance by Shanaya Patel, an electric set by the Dueling Pianos, and DJ Zorawar, who kept the dance floor active late into the night.
Culinary experiences matched the event's high energy, featuring offerings from Johnnie Walker, Lavazza, and Masala Whisky. A food truck from The Host provided meals, followed by gelato at the after-party, Ferrero Rocher chocolates, and panettone from Christmas Goodies. As a final touch, each guest departed with a beautiful bouquet from Bella Florist.
Fueling the Future of Healthcare
The financial impact of the evening extended far beyond the gala itself. The Humber River Health Foundation took the opportunity to announce that an additional $10.9 million had been raised in donations. This monumental influx of support will directly fund groundbreaking initiatives, including the new James B. Neill Simulation Centre, which is projected to train over 7,000 healthcare workers annually. It will also bolster the existing Robotic Surgery Program, renowned for transforming patient outcomes through precision, minimally invasive care.
Leadership and a Vision for the Next Decade
The event featured special remarks from Premier Doug Ford, who highlighted the critical importance of innovation in healthcare and praised Humber River Health's leadership in building a more connected and compassionate system for Ontario families.
"This was truly a night to remember," said Jennifer Stewart, President & CEO of Humber River Health Foundation. "We celebrated not only 10 years of extraordinary care, but also the people—our donors, partners, and hospital teams—who make it possible. Their generosity ensures Humber continues to light new ways in healthcare for decades to come."
Echoing this sentiment, Barbara Collins, President & CEO of Humber River Health, stated, "This celebration marks more than a milestone; it's a launchpad for the next decade of innovation. Ten years ago, Humber River Health opened North America’s first fully digital hospital, redefining the standard of modern care. This anniversary reflects our unwavering commitment to making healthcare smarter, safer, and more compassionate."
The successful event was presented in partnership with The International Centre, whose generosity was instrumental in bringing this milestone celebration to life.
