Ontario Government Commits $1 Million to Enhance CT Scan Availability in Windsor

The Ontario government has announced a significant investment of $1.08 million aimed at improving patient access to Computed Tomography (CT) scans at Windsor Regional Hospital. This funding is part of a larger provincial initiative totaling up to $81 million, designed to support 324,000 additional CT scan hours across 86 hospitals throughout Ontario during the 2025–2026 fiscal year.

Strengthening Local Healthcare Capacity

According to government officials, this financial injection will be utilized to expand CT scan operating hours at Windsor Regional Hospital, specifically at its Met campus. The move is expected to address growing diagnostic backlogs and reduce wait times, ultimately facilitating faster diagnoses and improved patient outcomes.

"Access to timely diagnostic imaging is essential to delivering high-quality patient care," emphasized Windsor–Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie. "By strengthening local hospital capacity, our government is ensuring families in Windsor–Essex receive the care they need, when they need it."

Broader Impact on Healthcare Services

The provincial funding is projected to alleviate pressures on emergency departments and other hospital services by streamlining diagnostic processes. Enhanced CT scan availability means patients can undergo necessary imaging more promptly, leading to quicker treatment plans and reduced strain on healthcare facilities.

Nicole Krywionek, Windsor Regional Hospital's chief nursing executive and vice-president of diagnostic imaging, expressed gratitude for the continued provincial support. "Windsor Regional Hospital is grateful for the province's continued investment in diagnostic imaging," she stated. "Our teams have been working hard to meet the growing needs of our community, and this funding helps sustain extended CT hours. We remain committed to ensuring patients across Windsor–Essex continue to receive timely access to high‑quality CT services."

Provincial Strategy to Combat Diagnostic Delays

This allocation to Windsor Regional Hospital represents a strategic component of Ontario's comprehensive approach to tackling diagnostic imaging challenges. The $81 million province-wide investment targets:

  • Reducing wait times for critical imaging procedures
  • Supporting faster and more accurate diagnoses
  • Improving overall patient care outcomes
  • Easing operational burdens on hospital emergency services

The initiative underscores the government's commitment to addressing healthcare infrastructure needs while responding to the increasing demand for medical imaging services across Ontario communities.
