An Ottawa firefighter sustained minor injuries while responding to a barn fire in Osgoode on Friday night. The incident occurred in the 4000 block of York's Corners Road, with multiple 911 calls reporting the fire just after 8:30 p.m. on June 5.
Fire Crews Respond to Fully Involved Barn
Upon arrival, the first fire crews discovered that a large barn and an attached silo were fully engulfed in flames and emitting heavy smoke. The rapid spread of the fire posed significant challenges to the firefighters.
Water Shuttle Operation Due to Lack of Hydrants
Because the area lacks fire hydrants, crews had to establish a water shuttle operation, transporting water from a nearby source to the scene. This logistical effort was crucial in combating the blaze.
The fire was declared under control at 9:45 p.m., after approximately one hour and fifteen minutes of firefighting efforts. An investigator has been assigned to determine the cause and point of origin of the blaze.
The injured firefighter was treated on scene for minor injuries and did not require hospitalization. Ottawa Fire Services reminds the public to report any signs of fire immediately and to ensure that properties are equipped with fire safety measures.
