SIU probes Toronto police arrest of cyclist; child porn charges

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating after a 21-year-old male cyclist suffered serious injuries during an arrest by Toronto Police officers last weekend.

Incident Details

The SIU reports that around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, officers attempted to stop a cyclist for failing to halt at a stop sign on Queens Quay West near Little Norway Park. An interaction ensued between the officers and the cyclist, resulting in the man's arrest. He was ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act and subsequently released from custody.

The cyclist later sought medical attention at a hospital, where he was diagnosed with a serious but non-life-threatening injury. The SIU invoked its mandate after being notified by the affected person's lawyer. Two investigators have been assigned to the case, and they are in the process of obtaining body-worn camera footage of the incident.

Child Pornography Charges

In a separate case, a 31-year-old Toronto man has been charged following an investigation by the Toronto Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit that began in April 2026. The investigation focused on the possession and accessing of child sexual abuse and exploitation material. It is alleged that the accused had such material on his personal electronic devices.

On Thursday, a search warrant was executed in the Finch Avenue West and Islington Avenue area, leading to the seizure of six electronic devices. Ryan Walker is charged with two counts each of possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material and accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 416-808-8500 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Criminal Harassment Charges

Additionally, a 50-year-old Toronto man faces charges in a criminal harassment investigation. Toronto Police say a 29-year-old woman was walking in the Queen Street East and Broadview Avenue area on May 18 when she reported a man following her on the sidewalk. The victim alleged that the man continued to follow her as she tried to leave the area, but she managed to flee and contact police.

Investigators identified a suspect and arrested him on Monday. Todd Christopher Rose is charged with criminal harassment by repeatedly following another person and criminal harassment by repeated communication. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 416-808-5500 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
