Windsor Doctor Honored for Sickle Cell Disease Work

Dr. Andrea Cervi, a hematologist at Windsor Regional Hospital's cancer program, has been awarded the Medical Award of Excellence by the Sickle Cell Awareness Group of Ontario. The award recognizes her outstanding commitment to supporting individuals and families impacted by sickle cell disease. The recognition was presented during a gala reception in Mississauga, Ontario, on June 13, 2026.

Dr. Cervi's Dedication to Sickle Cell Care

Sickle cell disease is a rare inherited blood disorder in which red blood cells become sickle-shaped and harden, leading to serious and potentially fatal complications. The condition can cause chronic, severe, and unpredictable pain, and there is currently no universal cure. Dr. Cervi has been a long-time advocate for patients with this disorder, working to improve care and outcomes in the Windsor community.

“I am extremely proud of how far our sickle cell disease program has come, but there is more work ahead,” Cervi said in a statement. “Our commitment remains unwavering: to provide the highest quality care for every person living with sickle cell disease in our community.”
