Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) executed a drug bust at a motel in Hearst on the afternoon of June 3, resulting in the seizure of illicit drugs with an estimated street value of $105,000. The operation led to the arrest of two individuals, whose identities have not yet been released pending charges.
Details of the seizure
According to police, the confiscated substances included significant quantities of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and other drugs. Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid known for its potency, has been linked to numerous overdose deaths across Canada. Methamphetamine, a stimulant, also poses serious health risks and contributes to community harm.
Arrests and charges
The two suspects were taken into custody without incident. They face multiple charges related to drug trafficking and possession. Police have not disclosed whether the investigation is ongoing or if additional arrests are expected.
The Nishnawbe Aski Police Service emphasized that this seizure disrupts the local drug trade and helps protect vulnerable populations. They urge anyone with information about drug activity to come forward.
