A 38-year-old Oshawa man has been arrested and charged in connection with a sexual assault investigation involving an au pair. Durham Regional Police allege that the suspect drugged a woman with ice cream containing a noxious substance, leaving her unconscious.
Details of the Case
According to police, in 2025, a woman was contacted through a Facebook Au Pair group by a man and woman with several children, offering au pair work in Canada. The victim arrived in Canada in December 2025 and agreed to live with the suspect and his spouse in exchange for child care services.
On Dec. 12, 2025, the suspect gave the victim ice cream. After consuming it, she reportedly felt incoherent and lost consciousness. Upon waking, she sought medical attention, and a noxious drug was found in her system. She had no memory of the previous night.
In early 2026, Durham police executed a search warrant at the suspect's Oshawa home, seizing electronic devices and the drug allegedly used. Child sexual abuse and exploitation materials were also discovered.
Charges Laid
On Wednesday, investigators arrested Derek Stephen Bellamy of Oshawa. He faces charges including sexual assault, administering a noxious substance, five counts of voyeurism, five counts of possession of recordings obtained by voyeurism, possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material, and accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material. He was held pending a bail hearing.
