Tragedy in Laval: Infant Dies, Second Child Lost in Multi-Vehicle Crash
Second Child Dies After Laval Multi-Vehicle Crash

LAVAL, QC – A devastating multi-vehicle collision earlier this month in Laval has now claimed the life of a second young child, as police confirmed a five-month-old baby girl died from her injuries this week.

A Family's Unimaginable Loss

The infant's death comes just ten days after her six-year-old sister also died from injuries sustained in the same crash. The tragic sequence of events brings the final toll of the January 5 incident to two fatalities and seven people injured.

Laval police stated the crash involved four vehicles and occurred around 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2026. According to preliminary information, a driver travelling northbound on Route 335 apparently lost control of their vehicle approximately one kilometre north of Dagenais Boulevard. The out-of-control vehicle then struck three other cars travelling in both the northbound and southbound lanes of the thoroughfare.

Investigation and Initial Questioning

The crash remains under active investigation by authorities. In the aftermath, police took a 40-year-old man in for questioning the day after the collision. He was subsequently released after signing a promise to appear in court at a later date. No further details about potential charges have been disclosed as the investigation continues.

Community Mourns and Investigation Continues

The back-to-back deaths of the two young sisters have cast a pall over the Laval community. The incident underscores the severe and often tragic consequences of road accidents. Police are urging anyone with additional information about the crash to come forward as they work to piece together the exact sequence of events that led to this catastrophic outcome on Route 335.

The investigation will likely examine all factors, including road conditions, vehicle speeds, and driver actions, to determine the cause of the initial loss of control that triggered the chain-reaction collision.
