Ontario Provincial Police have charged three drivers with impaired driving offences in Essex County following separate incidents over the weekend. The charges come as part of ongoing enforcement efforts to combat impaired driving in the region.
Details of the incidents
According to police, the first incident occurred on Saturday evening when officers stopped a vehicle on County Road 42 in Lakeshore. The driver, a 34-year-old man from Windsor, was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was charged with impaired driving and operating a motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.
The second incident took place early Sunday morning on Highway 3 in Leamington. A 29-year-old man from Kingsville was stopped for a traffic violation and subsequently charged with impaired driving and refusing to provide a breath sample.
The third incident happened Sunday afternoon on County Road 20 in Essex. A 41-year-old woman from Amherstburg was involved in a single-vehicle collision and was charged with impaired driving and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
Impact and enforcement
“Impaired driving remains a serious threat to public safety on our roads,” said OPP Constable John Smith. “These charges demonstrate our commitment to removing impaired drivers and preventing tragedies.”
All three accused are scheduled to appear in a Windsor court at a later date. Their driver’s licences have been suspended for 90 days, and their vehicles impounded for seven days, as per Ontario’s administrative licence suspension and vehicle impoundment laws.
Police urge anyone who suspects an impaired driver to call 911 immediately.
