Two Arrested in Fort McMurray $100,000 Drug Bust

ALERT Fort McMurray has arrested two men in connection with a drug trafficking operation, seizing nearly $100,000 worth of narcotics, multiple firearms, and thousands in cash. The bust, which took place on June 11, 2026, involved searches of two homes, a storage facility, and three vehicles, according to a police release issued Tuesday.

Details of the Seizure

Police confiscated an assortment of drugs valued at just under $100,000, including 915 grams of cocaine, 27 grams of methamphetamine, and varying smaller amounts of other substances. Additionally, three firearms were seized, all with ammunition, and one of which was identified as a prohibited weapon. Investigators also recovered $4,165 in cash believed to be proceeds of crime.

The operation was a joint effort between ALERT Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo RCMP, who executed the searches following months of investigation prompted by criminal intelligence reports.

Charges and Court Appearances

Matthew Berkshire, 34, and Dylan Hurley, 36, face multiple serious charges. Both are charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Hurley faces additional firearms-related offences, including possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition. According to police, Hurley was allegedly under a release order at the time of his arrest.

Berkshire has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on July 14, 2026. Hurley was set to appear on June 30, 2026.

ALERT Staff Sergeant Mark Wait emphasized the importance of community safety, stating, “Community safety is paramount, and it is a shared commitment between Wood Buffalo RCMP and ALERT to take drugs and guns off the street.” The statement underscores the ongoing collaboration between law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking and firearm offences in the region.
