Two motorists have been charged with impaired driving following separate incidents in Essex County over the weekend, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Arrests and Charges
A 34-year-old man was arrested on Saturday just after 7:40 p.m. after police responded to a traffic complaint on Gloucester Drive and Cumberland Way in Essex. He faces charges of operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams, and dangerous operation.
On Sunday at approximately 12:06 a.m., officers responded to a single-vehicle collision on Highway 77 near Mersea Road 8 in Leamington. A 26-year-old was arrested and charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs, failure or refusal to comply with a demand, and dangerous operation.
Penalties and Court Appearance
Both drivers received a 90-day licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. They are required to appear in court to answer to the charges.
“The safety of our community is paramount, and we will continue to enforce impaired driving laws to keep our roads safe,” provincial police said in a release. “Traffic safety is everyone’s responsibility.”
