Tragic Crash Claims Life of Senior Driver
Edmonton Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision that claimed the life of a 78-year-old man in central Edmonton on Monday night. The incident occurred near the intersection of 106 Avenue and 75 Street.
Details of the Collision
According to the Edmonton Police Service (EPS), officers were dispatched to the scene just before 9:40 p.m. on November 17, 2025. Their investigation revealed that the man was driving a 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan eastbound on 106 Avenue when he lost control of the vehicle.
The SUV veered across the westbound lanes, struck a curb, and then collided with a traffic light standard near 75 Street. Police have indicated that witnesses at the scene attempted to provide first-aid to the driver before emergency crews arrived.
Investigation Points to Medical Distress
The elderly man was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was later pronounced dead. In a press release issued on Tuesday, EPS investigators revealed a key detail: they believe the driver may have experienced a medical distress event prior to the collision.
Fortunately, no other injuries were reported as a result of this incident. The EPS Major Collision Investigation Section continues to handle the case.
Police are now appealing to the public for assistance. They are asking anyone who witnessed the crash, or who may have dash camera footage of the event, to contact the Edmonton Police Service at 780-423-4567.
