Driver Fights for Life After Snowplow Crash in Montérégie

Early Morning Collision Leaves Pickup Driver with Life-Threatening Injuries

A man is fighting for his life in hospital following a serious collision between his pickup truck and a snowplow in the Montérégie region. The incident occurred in the town of St-Rémi in the early hours of Sunday, January 11, 2026.

Emergency Response and Road Closure

According to Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Élizabeth Marquis, emergency services were called to the scene on de l’Église Street just before 3 a.m. Initial information indicates the driver of the pickup, a man in his 30s, struck a snowplow that had just finished clearing a private entrance.

The pickup driver, who was alone in his vehicle, suffered life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a regional hospital for urgent treatment. The snowplow operator was not injured in the crash.

In the aftermath, the SQ closed de l’Église Street for several hours to allow for a detailed investigation. Spokesperson Marythé Bolduc confirmed the road was shut down until approximately 6:30 a.m. while an SQ collision reconstruction specialist worked to determine the exact causes and circumstances of the event.

Weather Conditions and Ongoing Investigation

The collision happened following a period of snowfall on Saturday night, with reports indicating the snow was heavy at times. Weather is often a contributing factor in winter driving incidents across Quebec.

The Sûreté du Québec's investigation is ongoing. Authorities have not released further details about the sequence of events leading to the crash. The condition of the injured driver remains critical as of Sunday.

This serious accident serves as a stark reminder of the hazards present on Quebec roads during winter months, particularly for all drivers sharing the roadway with large maintenance vehicles like snowplows.
