Teen G1 driver charged after plate reader flags suspension

A 17-year-old driver holding a G1 license in Ontario is facing six traffic charges after an automated license plate reader alerted police to a suspended license. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning on Highway 417 near Bronson Avenue in Ottawa.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped the vehicle, a late-model Audi wrapped in turquoise, around 11 a.m. in the eastbound lanes. Constable Michael Fathi of the OPP Ottawa detachment reported that officers discovered multiple alleged violations of G1 driving regulations.

Alleged violations

Among the breaches, the driver was not accompanied by a fully licensed driver with at least four years of driving experience, as required for G1 license holders. The car was towed from the scene at the driver's expense.
