Alberta Health Services (AHS) has issued immediate closure orders to two food establishments owned by the same company in the Calgary region after discovering egregious violations of public health regulations. The actions were taken following inspections that revealed unsafe food handling conditions, including the processing of more than one hundred pigs without proper refrigeration or authorization.
Unsanitary Conditions and Lack of Permits Prompt Closure
On December 22, 2025, an AHS executive officer ordered the shutdown of two locations operating under the name Floyd’s Lechon Cebu, owned by Floyd’s Fine Food Inc. The first premises, located at 283200 Meadow Ridge Drive in Conrich, Rocky View County, was found to be operating without a valid food handling permit from Alberta Health Services.
Inspectors documented conditions deemed hazardous to public health. The site was handling, cooking, and storing 115 whole pigs in various stages of processing. The operation's refrigeration was grossly inadequate for the volume of meat. "The only means of refrigeration available onsite was a small domestic refrigerator," AHS stated. The pigs in the processing area were measured at dangerous temperatures between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius, well within the range where harmful bacteria can rapidly multiply.
Further alarming details from the AHS report included:
- Prepared pigs were stacked directly against an unfinished wall.
- Broken and uncleanable tables were used for processing.
- No handwashing sink or supplies were present in the food preparation area.
- A live dog was present in the processing area.
Second Calgary Location Also Shuttered
A second closure order was issued simultaneously for a Floyd’s Lechon Cebu establishment located at 100 La Valencia Garden NE in Calgary. This location was also found to be operating without a valid food handling permit. AHS mandated the immediate cessation of all commercial food operations at this site as well.
The public health orders require the owner to immediately close both premises and cease all unapproved commercial food handling. All pigs identified on site at the Conrich location must be disposed of in a manner confirmed by AHS. Furthermore, all food from the unapproved meat processing facility must be discarded.
Strict Requirements for Future Reopening
The closures are mandatory until the owner complies with all AHS directives. The business is prohibited from restarting any commercial food operations until it secures a valid food handling permit from Alberta Health Services. Additionally, the owner is required to remove all advertisements for the business while the closures are in effect.
"That until such time as the work referred to above is completed to the satisfaction of an Executive Officer of Alberta Health Services; the above noted premises shall remain closed," the AHS order firmly states. The agency's decisive action underscores its mandate to enforce food safety standards and protect consumers from potential health risks associated with improperly handled meat products.
