A recent TikTok review has sparked controversy by harshly criticizing 1587 Prime, the Kansas City steakhouse co-owned by NFL superstars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. The viral video, posted by user Nicole Rose under the handle @knicnacks, describes the dining experience as "the worst fine-dining experience" she has ever encountered.
Slow Service and High Prices Draw Criticism
Nicole Rose detailed numerous complaints in her review, starting with exceptionally slow drink service. She reported that it took forty-five minutes to receive a martini, which then turned out to be the wrong order. The server took another twenty minutes to check on the table, exacerbating the frustration.
"This was a $33 martini that arrived 45 minutes after we sat down," Nicole noted in her video. She added that her friend finished his beer without any server available to order a replacement. The situation worsened when fried chicken arrived before their drinks, which she described as "not good" and certainly not worth the $25 price tag.
Food Quality Fails to Impress
The issues extended beyond beverages to the main courses. Nicole stated that her $100 steak was incorrectly cooked, and she could not alert the server due to their absence. Her friend had nearly finished a steak before the accompanying $15 chimichurri sauce was delivered. Additionally, the mac and cheese was criticized as "pretty dry."
However, not all dishes were disappointing. The mashed potatoes and Parker House rolls received positive remarks, while the broccolini was hailed as "the best thing" ordered, earning a perfect ten out of ten rating. Despite these highlights, Nicole emphasized that side dishes should not overshadow the meat at a steakhouse.
Customer Reactions and Restaurant Ratings
The review ignited a wave of responses on social media. Many users echoed Nicole's sentiments, labeling the steakhouse "horrific" and "overhyped." One commenter expressed disbelief at the $33 martini price in Missouri, while another joked that for a $600 bill, Travis Kelce should personally serve the steak.
In contrast, 1587 Prime maintains a 4.3 overall rating on Google, suggesting generally favorable customer feedback. The steakhouse has its defenders who have enjoyed positive experiences, highlighting a divide in public opinion.
Advice from a Disappointed Diner
Nicole concluded her review by advising Kelce and Mahomes to visit Gibsons Steakhouse in Chicago to understand what a proper fine-dining experience should entail. Her critique underscores the challenges celebrity-owned restaurants face in meeting high expectations, especially when patrons pay premium prices.
This incident adds to the ongoing scrutiny of celebrity ventures in the hospitality industry, where fame does not always guarantee culinary excellence or seamless service.
