American Cruise Passengers Arrested in Bahamas After Brawl

Police in the Bahamas arrested five American cruise ship passengers this week after a brawl at a port and a “violent struggle” with officers.

Incident at Nassau Cruise Port

The Royal Bahamas Police Force said in a statement shared to social media on Tuesday that three females and two males from the United States were taken into custody following the incident at the Nassau Cruise Port.

Police received reports shortly after 4:45 p.m. on Monday that a physical altercation was occurring among several cruise ship passengers within the port area.

Tourism police officers responded and arrested five individuals, police said. The complainant was asked to provide an official statement at the police station, cops added.

Violent Struggle Between Cops and Suspects

At the station, officers prepared to search the individuals, however a “violent struggle reportedly ensued between officers and the five suspects,” the statement said.

“One female suspect allegedly threw a chair through a southern glass door, causing it to shatter. A male suspect then allegedly kicked out the remaining glass and attempted to escape but was immediately subdued by officers. Additional police units were requested to assist in restoring order.”

Authorities said four officers suffered various injuries while several of their uniforms were damaged.

“Two officers were reportedly struck about the body, while another suffered a laceration to the mouth,” the statement said. “The fourth officer sustained a serious injury to his left shoulder and was transported to the hospital by ambulance for medical treatment. His condition is currently unknown.”

The five U.S. citizens, who were also treated for their injuries during the earlier port fight, are being investigated for fighting in a public place, resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer, and malicious damage and disorderly behaviour in a police station.
