Firefighters Save Kitten from Behind Drywall in Hesperia

A fire crew in California successfully rescued a kitten that had become trapped inside a wall at an elderly resident's home in Hesperia last week, as shown in video footage of the incident. The San Bernardino County Fire Department reported that the kitten likely fell from the attic and became stuck behind the drywall.

Firefighters located the tiny feline using a thermal imaging camera and by playing a game of "hide-and-squeak," according to a department post on Facebook. Once the kitten was pinpointed, they cut a small opening in the wall and carefully removed the animal. The homeowner expressed gratitude and did not mind the minor damage to the drywall.

"From ducklings to kittens, springtime brings exciting opportunities and unique challenges for our crews, and we love them all," the fire department said regarding the April 29 rescue.

Cats Often Get Stuck in Unusual Places

While it may sound peculiar, cats frequently find themselves trapped behind walls and in other odd locations around the house. Their curious nature leads them to explore spaces behind cupboards, under floors, or in areas under renovation. They can fall into narrow gaps from which they cannot escape.

Experts caution cat owners that pets can also enter washers, dryers, and even ovens if doors are left open for airing out. It is recommended that owners check these appliances before use to prevent potential tragedies.
