The dog named after Florida Panthers superpest Brad Marchand is the only one remaining to find a home from the "Stanley Pup" adoption drive. The Brandywine Valley SPCA, serving Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and Washington, D.C., sponsored and hosted this year's event.
Stanley Pup Event Overview
The Stanley Pup has become an annual showcase to help adoptable dogs at various locations in the Northeast find new homes. The NHL partnered with the group and produced a 90-minute TV special that aired on Sportsnet, truTV, HBO Max and YouTube. Since the drive launched on June 8, 31 of the 32 pups have been adopted, with Marchound being the exception.
About Brad Marchound
According to his profile on the SPCA site, the 16-week-old mixed breed is "sweet, loyal and calm" and the "perfect companion for cozy nights and quiet walks." While almost certainly a joke, one potential negative listed for Marchound is that it "has 12 pet rats and leads the league in chirping minutes." Marchound's original name is Coco Puffs, but each pup has been given a temporary moniker based on NHL stars from each team. Coco Puffs, aka Brad Marchound, is currently staying at the SPCA's Everyday Adoption Center in Dover, Del., and potential owners are welcome to submit applications.
Other Dog Names
While Brad Marchound certainly is an inspired pun for the pup, there was no shortage of others that deserve a treat. From the Atlantic Division, there was Charlie Attaboy (McAvoy), Cole Pawfield (Caufield), Patrick Kanine and the Leafs representative, Max Dohgi. There's also Bone (Boone) Jenner, Logan Chompson (Thompson), Zeev Boop-em (Buium) and Artemi Pawnarin (Panarin). There are two Shepherd Terrier mixes named after the Hughes brothers, Quinn and Jack Chews. But a personal favourite is an Australian Shepherd in Lindenwold, N.J., who has been dubbed Jason Slobbertson.
About Brandywine Valley SPCA
According to their site, the Brandywine Valley SPCA was founded in 1929 and helps more than 27,000 pets every year. Through the first six months of 2026, it has already placed nearly 10,000 animals in homes. Donations are also welcome through the Stanley Pup website.
