Garden Beau Transforms Universal Studios Singapore with Minion Park Greenery
Behind the joyful chaos of Minion Park at Universal Studios Singapore—the squealing children, the dancing characters, the unmistakable pop of yellow—there is something quieter at work. Something green and sustainable, brought to life through meticulous landscape design.
A Vision Made Real Through Living Greenery
Garden Beau Private Limited, a subsidiary of GEBE Environmental Technology Limited, has successfully completed the comprehensive landscape installation and maintenance preparation for the new Minion Park zone. This project represents a significant achievement in blending creative theming with environmental consciousness, bringing the beloved world of the Minions to life through carefully selected living plants rather than artificial alternatives.
As part of Resorts World Sentosa's substantial S$6.8 billion "RWS 2.0" expansion initiative, Minion Park officially opened to the public on February 14, 2025. This attraction stands as the first major development to launch under the integrated resort's ambitious transformation plan, setting a new standard for immersive theme park experiences in Southeast Asia.
Horticultural Expertise Meets Creative Imagination
"We were given a vision to bring to life," explained Gek Hong (Joyce) Toh, CEO of GEBE Environmental Technology Limited. "The creative team at Universal had designed something wonderful, and our job was to make it real. No plastic plants. No shortcuts."
The Minion universe is famously defined by bright primary colors—vibrant yellows, blues, and reds. Garden Beau's team of expert horticulturists faced the unique challenge of complementing this colorful environment while maintaining natural authenticity. They carefully selected plant varieties with deep greens to make the iconic yellow elements pop visually, incorporated soft textures to balance the hard architectural lines of the buildings, and strategically placed flowering plants to add subtle color accents without overwhelming the carefully crafted theming.
A Delicate Balancing Act of Playfulness and Precision
Creating the perfect environment required a delicate balancing act. The landscaping needed to feel playful and whimsical—appropriate for the Minions' chaotic world—without appearing neglected or unkempt. Garden Beau's dedicated team spent weeks finding that precise sweet spot, engaging in an iterative process of planting, stepping back to assess the visual impact, and making careful adjustments until the environment felt genuinely alive and organic.
Construction for Minion Park began in mid-2022, with Garden Beau completing their substantial scope within a compressed one-year timeline. The landscaping team worked in close coordination with main contractors, fitting their specialized work into tight windows between structural milestones. Timing proved critical—planting too early risked damage from ongoing construction traffic, while planting too late would prevent proper establishment before the park's scheduled opening. The coordination required was immense, matched only by the team's determination to deliver excellence.
The Ultimate Compliment: Unconscious Appreciation
"The first time I walked through the completed park, I found myself watching the visitors more than the plants," Toh recalled with evident pride. "Children pointing at the greenery without even realizing they were noticing it. But if the plants had been plastic, they would have felt something was off. That's the best compliment our work could receive."
Universal Studios Singapore has represented one of Garden Beau's proudest and most enduring partnerships since the park first opened its gates. The company has contributed to various zones over the years, witnessing Southeast Asia's first Universal Studios theme park evolve into a premier international tourist destination.
From Forest Restoration to Pure Fun
Yet Minion Park holds a particularly special place in the company's portfolio. "After years of working on forest restoration projects—the quiet, important work of watching ecosystems heal—it was a genuine joy to build something that makes people laugh out loud," Toh reflected. "The Minions represent pure, unadulterated fun. And sometimes, creating spaces for joy and laughter matters just as much as everything else we do."
This project demonstrates how sustainable landscaping practices can enhance major entertainment attractions while maintaining environmental integrity. Garden Beau's work at Minion Park serves as a model for how creative vision and ecological responsibility can work in harmony to create memorable experiences that respect both artistry and nature.
