Ottawa Man Charged with Possession of Replica Firearms

A man in his 20s is facing multiple charges after the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) seized a pair of replica firearms and ammunition magazines early Thursday, June 18. The incident occurred in the area of Sunnyside Avenue and Carraway Private, near Carleton University.

Details of the Incident

Police officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 12:30 a.m. following a report of a man dressed in black carrying what appeared to be an assault-style weapon. Upon arrival, officers located the suspect near Seneca Street and made an arrest.

According to an OPS news release, the man has been charged with two counts of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, one count of carrying a concealed weapon, one count of common nuisance/endangering the lives or safety of the public, and one count of mischief.

Seized Items

During the arrest, police seized an imitation assault-style rifle, a replica handgun with a magazine, and additional magazines. The OPS emphasized that these were replica firearms, not actual weapons.
