Karlie Kloss Defends Marriage to Joshua Kushner Amid Political Divide

Supermodel Karlie Kloss has once again addressed the political dynamics within her marriage to Joshua Kushner, the brother of Jared Kushner, a senior advisor to former President Donald Trump. In an interview with Bloomberg Originals on July 1, Kloss stated, "I know who I am. I know the values that guide my life and the issues that I care about. So, you know, I haven't lost sight of who I am, but also, it's my husband's family." She clarified that she has "never met President Trump" and is accustomed to navigating political differences when spending time with her brother-in-law's family.

Kloss Opens Up About Political Differences

Kloss, who married Joshua Kushner in 2018, had previously told Vogue that they "share a lot of the same liberal values." In 2020, she alluded to the "complications" surrounding her husband's ties with the Trump family on Diane von Fürstenberg's InCharge with DVF podcast, saying, "I really followed my heart on choosing to be with the person that I love, despite any complications that came with it. I knew for me, it was worth it to fight for that."

Her Perspective on Political Dialogue

In the recent interview, Kloss emphasized her Democratic affiliation while advocating for respectful dialogue across political divides. "You know, I'm a Democrat. I think it's possible to have relationships with people who you don't politically align with," she said. "And I think this country has always been a place for dialogue. We have to be able to talk to each other." She also referenced her upbringing in St. Louis, which she described as "a blue dot in a red state," as having exposed her to diverse political viewpoints.

Public Backlash on Social Media

Kloss's comments drew strong criticism on Reddit and Instagram. One top comment read, "translation = wealth means we can discuss things respectfully without the emotional weight of experiencing the topics themselves." Another user wrote, "If she is not having the tough conversations with that family, she is 100% complicit in everything they do! She is a part of their foundation. There is NO sense of understanding or remorse in her voice or body for the atrocities that family is actively committing." Others echoed sentiments like "Silence = complicity" and "Neutrality only helps the oppressors." One Reddit user argued, "Politics isn't a difference of school vouchers or privatizing social security. It's morality. It's world view. It is a detailed map of a person."

Criticism of Class Solidarity

Some commenters accused Kloss of prioritizing class solidarity over political principles. "Rich people always have class solidarity with one another. They can put politics aside because the most important thing for them is capital and the accumulation of it," one person wrote. Others dismissed Kloss's response as "low effort" and "scripted."
