Trump Votes by Mail in Florida Election, Despite Calling Method 'Cheating'
Trump Votes by Mail Despite Calling It 'Cheating'

President Donald Trump participated in Tuesday's special election by submitting a mail-in ballot, the very voting method he has frequently labeled as "cheating" and pledged to outlaw for the majority of American citizens. According to records from the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections website, Trump's mail-in vote was officially accepted on March 15. The president is registered to vote in Palm Beach, Florida.

Confirmation of Ballot Acceptance

A representative from the elections office verified to The Washington Post that the information displayed on the website is accurate and reflects Trump's participation in the electoral process. The special election in question features a contest between Democrat Emily Gregory and Republican Jon Maples for a seat in the state legislature.

Trump's Public Stance on Mail-In Voting

For an extended period, President Trump has vocally criticized mail-in voting, describing it as "corrupt as hell" and attributing it to "massive voter fraud." He has asserted that Democrats endorse this method because it allegedly enables them to "cheat" and secure victories. In recent statements, Trump has even threatened to withhold his signature from new legislation unless restrictions on mail-in voting are implemented prior to the upcoming November midterm elections.

"Mail-in voting means mail-in cheating," Trump declared on Monday. "I call it mail-in cheating, and we’ve got to do something about it all."

White House Defense of Trump's Decision

In response to inquiries from HuffPost, a White House spokesperson defended Trump's choice to vote by mail. Spokeswoman Olivia Wales explained that the president supports the use of mail-in ballots for individuals who are ill, disabled, serving in the military, or traveling. "As everyone knows, the President is a resident of Palm Beach and participates in Florida elections, but he obviously primarily lives at the White House in Washington, D.C.," Wales stated. She further emphasized that "universal mail-in voting should not be allowed because it’s highly susceptible to fraud."

Discrepancy in Voting Opportunities

Notably, Trump was present in Palm Beach during the previous weekend and the weekend before that, while early voting was actively available. This presence theoretically provided him with the opportunity to cast his ballot in person, rather than relying on the mail-in method he criticizes. The White House did not offer any clarification regarding this inconsistency when questioned for comment.

During his time in Florida, Trump was observed waving from his limousine as he traveled to the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach on Sunday. This visit mirrored a similar trip he made on March 15, another weekend when early voting was underway. These appearances highlight his physical availability in the area during the voting period, raising questions about his decision to opt for mail-in voting despite his public condemnations of the practice.
