Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that President Donald Trump would have faced imprisonment if he had not won the 2024 presidential election. In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Blanche affirmed that Trump's legal battles would have led to incarceration.
Blanche's Interview with Hannity
During an episode of 'Hang Out With Sean Hannity' shared on Tuesday, Hannity referenced Trump's conviction on 34 federal charges for falsifying business records to conceal a hush-money payment to Stormy Daniels. Hannity asked, 'So is it an accurate statement to say he either wins in '24, wins the White House ― it's either the White House or the big house?'
Blanche responded, 'Yes... oh, man, oh, yeah, absolutely. Don't forget ― he had a D.C. case breathing down his neck. He had the Florida [classified documents] case which had been dismissed, but they were appealing it, and then he had a judge in New York who... there's no scenario in which he wasn't going to send President Trump to prison.'
Legal Cases Dropped
In November 2024, Special Counsel Jack Smith moved to drop federal cases related to Trump's efforts to overturn the election and the documents case, citing precedent that a sitting president cannot be prosecuted. The Georgia election case was also dropped. Trump has continued efforts to have his hush-money conviction tossed.
Retribution Drive and Fund Controversy
Blanche appears involved in Trump's retribution drive against perceived enemies. Last month, he announced a fund to help victims 'who suffered weaponization and lawfare,' according to a Justice Department press release. The setup, part of a lawsuit settlement feared to benefit convicted Jan. 6 rioters, faced bipartisan blowback. Blanche said Tuesday the administration would not proceed with the fund.
