Police Video Reveals Ex-WWE Executive Vince McMahon's High-Speed Highway Crash

Newly released police footage has exposed the dramatic details of a high-speed crash involving former WWE executive Vince McMahon on a Connecticut highway last summer. The video evidence shows McMahon, now 80 years old, ramming his luxury sports car into another vehicle while being followed by a state trooper.

The High-Speed Incident on Merritt Parkway

According to Connecticut State Police records, McMahon was operating his 2024 Bentley Continental GT at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour (160 kilometers per hour) on the Merritt Parkway in Westport when the collision occurred. Dashcam video from the pursuing trooper's vehicle captures McMahon accelerating rapidly before braking too late to avoid rear-ending a BMW sedan.

The impact caused McMahon's Bentley, valued at over $300,000, to swerve violently into a guardrail before careening back across the highway. The collision created a substantial cloud of dirt and scattered automotive debris across the roadway.

Police Interaction and McMahon's Explanation

State Police Detective Maxwell Robins, who caught up to the wrecked Bentley, questioned McMahon about his excessive speed. "Why were you driving all over 100 mph?" Robins asked in bodycam footage.

McMahon offered an unexpected explanation for his hurried driving: "I got my granddaughter's birthday," he responded, indicating he was en route to celebrate with her.

Additional Vehicles and WWE Connection

The July 24 incident resulted in damage to the rear of the BMW and affected another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. Flying debris struck this third car, whose driver coincidentally happened to be wearing a WWE-branded shirt at the time of the crash, according to police video documentation.

Remarkably, no serious injuries were reported despite the high-speed nature of the collision. The crash occurred on the same day that WWE legend Hulk Hogan passed away from a heart attack in Florida.

Legal Proceedings and McMahon's Defense

McMahon received citations for reckless driving and following too closely following the incident. In October, a Connecticut judge permitted McMahon to enter a pretrial probation program. Successful completion of this program by next October will result in the charges being expunged from his record. The court also ordered McMahon to make a $1,000 charitable contribution.

McMahon's attorney, Mark Sherman, characterized the event as an unfortunate accident rather than criminal behavior. "Not every car accident is a crime," Sherman stated. "Vince's primary concern during this case was for the other drivers and is appreciative that the court saw this more of an accident than a crime that needed to be prosecuted."

Police Perspective and Additional Details

State police clarified that Detective Robins was attempting to catch up to McMahon to clock his speed before initiating a traffic stop, rather than engaging in a pursuit of a fleeing suspect. However, the bodycam footage reveals some contradictory dialogue between the officer and McMahon.

"I'm trying to catch up to you and you keep taking off," Robins remarked in the video.

McMahon responded defensively: "No, no no. I'm not trying to outrun you."

Notably, the initial accident information summary provided to media outlets shortly after the crash failed to mention that a state trooper had been following McMahon prior to the collision.

Video Release and McMahon's Post-Crash Comments

The Associated Press obtained the police videos through a public records request this Wednesday, following initial acquisition by The Sun newspaper. The footage includes additional revealing moments, including McMahon's admission about his vehicle's capabilities.

When Detective Robins commented on the Bentley's speed, McMahon acknowledged: "Yeah, too (expletive) fast."

The bodycam video also shows McMahon interacting with Barbara Doran, the New York City resident whose BMW he rear-ended. Doran previously confirmed to the AP that McMahon expressed genuine concern for her wellbeing following the crash. She had been traveling to catch a ferry to Martha's Vineyard when the incident occurred.

McMahon's Recent History and WWE Legacy

Following the traffic stop, McMahon shook hands with Detective Robins and another trooper, who wished him well as he departed.

This incident comes amid significant professional transitions for McMahon. He stepped down as WWE's CEO in 2022 during a company investigation into sexual misconduct allegations. More recently, in 2024, he resigned as executive chairman of TKO Group Holdings, WWE's parent company, just one day after a former WWE employee filed a sexual abuse lawsuit against him. McMahon has consistently denied all allegations, and the lawsuit remains pending.

McMahon's influence on professional wrestling remains substantial. After purchasing what was then the World Wrestling Federation in 1982, he transformed the organization from a regional enterprise into a global entertainment phenomenon. Alongside running the company with his wife Linda, who currently serves as U.S. Education Secretary, McMahon frequently performed as himself at WWE events throughout his career.
