Former Congresswoman Issues Stark Warning Over Trump's Foreign Policy
Former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, the Georgia Republican who has transformed from a MAGA loyalist to a vocal Trump critic, issued a dire political warning on Saturday. She cautioned that President Donald Trump's escalating military involvement in Iran could spell electoral disaster for both the president and his party in the upcoming midterm elections.
Social Media Rebuke of Administration Strategy
Greene reshared a clip on X featuring former Fox News host Megyn Kelly's commentary from her SiriusXM program. Kelly asserted that sending American troops into Iran would make it impossible for Republicans to win elections for the next ten to twenty years. "Everything he built, the entire coalition we were all part of, will be ruined," Kelly declared in the segment.
The former congresswoman explicitly endorsed Kelly's assessment, writing: "Megyn is right. We campaigned and promised no more foreign wars and no more regime change." Greene further elaborated that Trump and Republicans face being "slaughtered in the midterms bc of war in Iran and the Epstein files cover up instead of a strong domestic agenda that helped Americans afford life."
Longstanding Criticisms Come to a Head
This latest criticism builds upon Greene's final period in Congress, during which she aggressively challenged the Trump administration's handling of documents related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Her congressional career concluded with a public feud with the president, culminating in her resignation from office.
In a separate social media post on Sunday, Greene responded to commentator Ann Coulter's comparison of Fox News's coverage to its disputed reporting during the 2020 election cycle. Greene accused the network of "brainwashing boomers to support what we voted against," bluntly stating: "Fox News is now the fake news."
White House Fires Back at Former Ally
Just days before these posts, Greene had accused Trump and Republican leaders of governing "America LAST," specifically citing rising gasoline prices that she attributed to the president's "pointless war." The White House responded forcefully to her criticisms through a spokesperson who told Fox News: "There is nothing more 'America Last' than quitting on your constituents and the MAGA movement in the middle of your term. President Trump is fighting every single day to Make America Great Again — we don't have time for quitters."
Military Escalation Amid Public Skepticism
As Greene continues her vocal opposition, President Trump is reportedly considering a military operation to secure nearly 1,000 pounds of uranium in Iran, according to U.S. officials who spoke with The Wall Street Journal. This potential escalation comes against a backdrop of significant public concern.
A recent AP-NORC poll reveals that approximately 59% of Americans believe the United States has already "gone too far" with its military involvement in Iran. This substantial public skepticism underscores the political risks Greene has highlighted, suggesting that foreign policy decisions could indeed have profound consequences for domestic political fortunes in the approaching election cycle.
