Murder, Manslaughter Charges in 2022 B.C. Interior Death

Nearly four years after a man was found dead in the West Kootenay region, authorities have laid charges of murder and manslaughter in connection with the case. Jean Luc Noel Levesque, a resident of Nelson, British Columbia, was discovered unresponsive near the 1800 block of Columbia Avenue on August 11, 2022. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation and Charges

The Nelson Police Department, in collaboration with the BC Coroners Service, conducted an extensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Levesque's death. The probe led to the identification of a suspect, and on April 27, 2026, charges were formally approved. The accused faces one count of second-degree murder and one count of manslaughter. The individual was taken into custody without incident and is scheduled to appear in court in Nelson on May 12, 2026.

Community Reaction

Residents of the small city expressed shock and relief that progress has been made in the case. “It’s been a long wait for answers,” said a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous. “We hope this brings some closure to his family.” Levesque’s family has been notified of the charges and has requested privacy during this difficult time.
