Ottawa police have identified the father believed to be responsible for a double-murder suicide that claimed the lives of two children in the city's Findlay Creek neighbourhood. The incident occurred on June 30, 2026, and was confirmed by authorities on July 2.
Police confirm father's role in deaths
According to Ottawa police, the father is suspected of killing his two children before taking his own life. The identities of the deceased have not been publicly released, pending notification of next of kin. Officers responded to a residence in the Findlay Creek area following reports of a disturbance, where they discovered the bodies.
“This is a tragic event that has deeply affected the community,” said Ottawa police in a statement. “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victims during this difficult time.”
Community mourns as investigation continues
A memorial of flowers has been placed outside the home, where neighbours and community members have gathered to pay their respects. The Findlay Creek neighbourhood, typically quiet and family-oriented, has been shaken by the violence.
Police have not disclosed a motive for the killings, and the investigation remains ongoing. Autopsies are scheduled to determine the exact causes of death. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward.
“We are committed to thoroughly investigating this incident and providing answers to the community,” the police statement added.
