RCMP arrest two in Montreal human smuggling probe

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have arrested two individuals in Montreal as part of an investigation into a suspected human smuggling operation that allegedly moved migrants across the Canada-United States border in both directions, authorities announced Thursday.

Two Arrested in Montreal-Nord Raid

Officers from the Champlain Integrated Border Enforcement Team executed a search warrant at a residence in the Montreal-Nord borough, leading to the arrest of an alleged smuggler and a migrant. The RCMP Federal Policing Eastern Region stated that the home “is believed to have been used as temporary housing for migrants who have just illegally crossed the border, or to hide migrants while waiting to smuggle them into the United States.”

Ongoing Investigation

The RCMP said the investigation remains active and did not release the names of those arrested. They urged anyone with information to contact the force at 514-939-8300 or 1-800-771-5401, or their local police. The arrests highlight continued efforts to combat human smuggling along the Canada-U.S. border.
