Saskatoon police are investigating the death of a 77-year-old woman as the city's seventh homicide of 2026. The woman was found dead in the 200 block of Avenue R South on Sunday, May 3.
Details of the Incident
Patrol officers responded to a report of an injured person around 10 p.m. on Sunday. Upon arrival, they discovered the woman's body inside a residence. Members of the major crime section and forensic identification section are leading the investigation. No charges have been laid, and police have not released further details about the victim.
Previous Homicides in 2026
This year has seen a series of homicides in Saskatoon. Four homicides occurred in April alone:
- April 26: A 55-year-old man was found unresponsive in the 2200 block of 22nd Street. He died in hospital the next day.
- April 15: Officers responded to the 1100 block of Avenue W North for an unresponsive person in an apartment. The individual was declared dead at the scene.
- April 9: A 39-year-old man was found injured in the 500 block of Avenue X South and later died in hospital.
- April 3: Fire crews and police responded to a house fire in the 400 block of Avenue I South, where the body of a 61-year-old woman was found.
Earlier homicides include:
- March 14: A 49-year-old man died from a gunshot wound in the 900 block of 22nd Street West. A 17-year-old boy has been charged with second-degree murder.
- February 3: The first homicide of the year involved a stabbing that left one man dead. Albert Scott, 26, is charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault.
