Sen. Mitch McConnell Hospitalized Again, Office Confirms
Sen. McConnell Hospitalized for Second Time in 2024

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) was admitted to the hospital Sunday morning for the second time this year, according to a statement from his office.

“Senator McConnell was admitted to the hospital this morning. He is receiving excellent care,” spokesperson David Popp said.

The statement from McConnell’s office did not detail why he was transported to the hospital, which hospital he was admitted to or any additional information about the senator’s condition. McConnell’s office did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment.

McConnell, 84, has faced several medical issues in recent years, including suffering injuries from a fall at a Washington hotel in March 2023, and months later, publicly freezing up mid-sentence while speaking at a news conference in July.

The Republican lawmaker, who announced last year he would not seek reelection, checked himself into the hospital for “flu-like symptoms” in February “in an abundance of caution,” his spokesperson Popp told HuffPost at the time.

McConnell, the longest-serving Senate party leader in U.S. history, served as Senate majority leader from 2015 to 2021 and currently chairs the Senate Rules Committee.
