The Trump White House faced a wave of backlash on Tuesday after promoting a service that allows Americans to request personalized messages from the president. The official X account of the White House posted about the presidential greetings program, which enables people to request messages from Donald Trump for occasions such as births, birthdays, graduations, weddings, and retirements.
Controversies Resurface
While the program has existed under previous administrations, critics quickly pointed out Trump's past controversies. They highlighted his hypocritical criticism of predecessor Joe Biden's use of an autopen for signatures, as well as a reported racy birthday drawing he sent to late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a former close associate.
Public Reactions
Many social media users urged the White House to focus on more pressing issues like affordability. Some bluntly stated that the only message they wanted from Trump was his resignation. Examples of reactions include:
- "Sorry um worried about groceries at the moment!"
- "I'm not interested unless the message is his resignation."
- "There's nothing meaningful about anything he says."
- "Is he gonna be scribbling all day or using an autopen?"
- "The only message I ever want to hear from him is I resign."
- "I'd rather have a president focus on affordability rather than making messages."
- "Pass. My life's most meaningful moment will be when this b@st@rd leaves office."
- "Nah, I'd rather not, thanks. Unless its his resignation letter?"
The promotion of the greetings program thus became a platform for renewed criticism of the president's record and priorities.
