Inflation hit a three-year high last month, driven by rising gas prices and a 4.2% increase in the cost of consumer goods compared to the previous year. Millions of Americans now face an affordability crisis. In a surprising response, President Donald Trump expressed his enthusiasm for the rising prices.
Trump's Unconventional Support for Inflation
“I love the inflation,” the president said in the Oval Office on Wednesday, interrupting a reporter before they could reference the actual data. “No, I love it. The numbers were great,” Trump asserted. (Editor's note: The numbers were not great.) “You know what I really love? I love the inflation.”
Connecting Inflation to Secret Oil Operations
In a convoluted explanation, Trump claimed that high inflation is beneficial because the United States has been covertly extracting millions of barrels of oil from Iran. “I can say it now — something you didn’t know,” Trump said. “Did you know we’ve been taking out millions of barrels of oil? Nobody knows it. You know who doesn’t know about it? Iran, until right now.”
Trump then detailed the operation: “We took out, the other night, 22 ships. Late at night, with no lights. Because they don’t have any radar, because we blasted the crap out of it. We took out — that’s why oil’s $85 a barrel. You take a look.”
Given the rising cost of his proposed ballroom, which has fluctuated between $200 million, $400 million, and over $1 billion, one might expect Trump to be more concerned about inflation. However, his remarks suggest a different perspective.
