President Donald Trump posted another late-night rant on Wednesday about the criminal case against former FBI Director James Comey, asserting that his “86 47” post carried violent implications. “'86' is a mob term for 'kill him.' They say 86 him! 86 47 means 'kill President Trump.' James Comey, who is a Dirty Cop, one of the worst, knows this full well! EIGHT MILES OUT, SIX FEET DOWN! Didn't he also lie to the FBI about this??? I think so! President DJT,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Comey Faces Federal Charges
Comey is facing two federal charges of threatening harm to the president and transmitting a threat across state lines. The charges stem from a social media post last year that displayed seashells arranged to read “86 47.” The former FBI director made his first court appearance on Wednesday in Virginia, where he remained silent and did not enter a plea.
Defense Attorney's Argument
Comey's defense attorney, Patrick Fitzgerald, stated during the hearing that the defense would argue the prosecution is vindictive and selective. Trump fired Comey early in his first term while Comey was overseeing the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
Comey Responds
Comey responded to Tuesday's indictment in a video posted to his Substack account. “Well, they're back. This time, about a picture of seashells on a North Carolina Beach a year ago, and this won't be the end of it. But nothing has changed with me. I'm still innocent, I'm still not afraid, and I still believe in the independent federal judiciary. So let's go,” Comey said in the video.
