Trump Says No Women at UFC Event Is 'Nice'

Trump's Controversial Remarks at UFC Freedom 250 Event

During a speech in Macungie, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, President Donald Trump expressed delight over the White House's UFC Freedom 250 event, notably because of the apparent absence of women in the crowd. "I mean, these are the strongest, toughest men on Earth," Trump began, referring to the UFC fighters. "No women in the crowd, which is nice. But these are the toughest men on Earth, and it's tremendous pressure," he added.

Fixation on Athletes' Muscles and Intelligence

The president continued after his dig about women, focusing on the athletes' physiques. "And you know, the muscles, you got the muscles, you guys, you got the big strong muscles, but you got this muscle, too," he said, gesturing toward his brain. "Because it takes much more than just the normal muscle to win those matches." Trump then insisted that there is "a genius" behind UFC fighting and sports in general, before claiming that "a lot of people wouldn't understand."

Context of Disparaging Remarks About Michelle Obama

Trump's unusual speech comes after UFC heavyweight fighter Josh Hokit made disparaging and false remarks about former first lady Michelle Obama on the White House lawn. Turning to UFC commentator Joe Rogan after a fight, Hokit exclaimed, "Michelle Obama is a man! Am I right, America?" Trump faced backlash for reportedly smirking at Hokit's comment. The president has not yet publicly denounced the remarks.
