Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters unleashed a fiery condemnation of President Donald Trump during a hearing on the administration's controversial immigration enforcement operations in Los Angeles.
Blistering Critique of Presidential Leadership
During Monday's press conference, the California representative didn't mince words when characterizing the president, describing him as "this lowdown, dirty, no good, filthy president of the United States of America." The sharp remarks appeared to generate audible astonishment from attendees at the Los Angeles event.
Waters emphasized that the gathering served to inform the public about coordinated resistance efforts against the Trump administration's immigration policies. "This is an important press conference that is being held to let you know what we're all doing: resisting," she declared before launching into her pointed criticism.
Community Targeting and Resistance Efforts
The congresswoman detailed what she characterized as targeted enforcement actions against minority communities. "They are targeting our leadership both in the Latino community and in the Black community," Waters asserted.
In response to these operations, Waters described her own counter-surveillance activities. "While they're targeting them and following them, I'm on the street and I'm following ICE and I'm targeting ICE," she revealed. "We are documenting everything. We are resisting."
Waters highlighted what she sees as a significant development in community solidarity, noting "the biggest coming together of the Black and brown community that we've seen in this city ever."
Sustained Protest Movement
The veteran lawmaker urged continued demonstrations against the immigration raids. "You must not stop. I'm protesting. I've been to 11 of them," Waters shared, emphasizing her personal involvement in the movement.
She described maintaining vigilance in monitoring enforcement activities, stating "I stay on the street, in the alleys, wherever I need to be." Waters characterized the resistance as both courageous and strategic, adding "We're not afraid, but we're smart."
The hearing featured testimony from Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, additional lawmakers, and community members who shared personal accounts of how the Trump-ordered raids have impacted their lives and described their methods of combating the enforcement actions.
