President Donald Trump has increasingly used the term in recent weeks, often pausing to explain the pun. In an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity last month, Trump falsely claimed he had invented the insult, stating, 'Because they're dumb. They're dumb. It's D-U-M. I got rid of the B. So you're only changing one letter, right? E goes, and the U comes. It's a Dumocrat.'
Public Backlash Erupts Online
The White House's post quickly drew ire from social media users, with many calling the move childish and unbecoming of an official government account.
