An agreement to end hostilities between the United States and Iran is now finalized, according to former President Donald Trump, with key mediator Pakistan corroborating the announcement on social media. Trump declared the deal complete on Sunday evening via a post on Truth Social, which was subsequently shared by an official White House account, concluding with the exhortation to "let the oil flow!"
Trump Announces Completion of Deal
"The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all!" Trump wrote, adding that he had authorized the "toll-free opening" of the Strait of Hormuz and the cessation of the U.S. military blockade on Iranian ports. "Ships of the world, start your engines," he added.
While there was no immediate confirmation from Iran, the Times of Israel reported that Iran's deputy foreign minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, indicated through their diplomatic mission in India that an "immediate and permanent end of the war" would be announced starting Sunday night.
Pakistan Confirms Mediation
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also took to social media to confirm that both sides had declared the "termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon." Sharif stated that an official signing ceremony is scheduled for Friday in Switzerland, with mediators continuing talks until then. Additionally, Fox News reported that "detailed discussions" on Iran's nuclear program are set to begin following the deal.
The breakthrough came after Trump indicated a deal was "very close," despite an Israeli attack in Lebanon—where Israel has been exchanging strikes with the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah—that threatened to derail negotiations. Trump warned all parties not to "blow it."
Israeli Concerns Remain
According to the Times of Israel, there is "profound" concern about the deal in Israel, which was reportedly not included in the U.S.-Iran discussions. The outlet noted that the deal "fails to achieve any of the goals of the war set out by the U.S. and Israel, including eliminating Iran's nuclear weapons program, depleting its ballistic missile stockpile, ending its support for terror proxies, and creating conditions for the fall of the regime."
More details are expected to emerge as the signing ceremony approaches.
