A 34-year-old woman from St. Catharines has been charged after police in northern Ontario received reports about a driver who was unable to stay in their lane on Highway 17.
Incident details
Ontario Provincial Police responded to multiple calls on June 26, 2026, regarding a vehicle that was swerving erratically across the highway. The driver, later identified as the accused, appeared to be under the influence of drugs, according to police.
Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver showed signs of impairment and was subsequently arrested.
Charges laid
The woman has been charged with impaired driving and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. She is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. Police did not release her name pending the court appearance.
“This driver posed a significant risk to everyone on the road,” said OPP Constable Marie Ford in a statement. “We are grateful that no collisions occurred before our officers intervened.”
Public safety reminder
Police remind the public that impaired driving, whether by alcohol or drugs, remains a leading cause of fatal collisions on Ontario highways. They urge anyone who sees suspicious driving to call 911 immediately.
