U.S. border officials have apprehended a fugitive wanted for murder in India after he attempted to enter Canada at a major international crossing. The arrest occurred at the Peace Bridge, a critical border point connecting Buffalo, New York, to Fort Erie, Ontario.
Identity Unmasked During Secondary Inspection
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the incident took place on Sunday, November 19, 2025. During a secondary inspection, Vishat Kumar, a 22-year-old Indian national, was allegedly found to be concealing his true identity. Agents reported that he had provided a false name and date of birth.
The CBP utilized advanced biometric technology to confirm his identity. This investigation revealed a more serious background: Kumar was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice for murder in his home country. An Interpol Red Notice is a formal request to law enforcement agencies worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition or similar legal action.
A Pattern of Illegal Activity
Further details from the CBP news release indicate that Kumar had illegally entered the United States in 2024. His unauthorized status was compounded by his failure to attend a scheduled asylum interview. His attempt to cross into Canada marked another step in evading authorities.
Following his arrest, Kumar was processed by CBP officers and subsequently handed over to agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) / Enforcement and Removal Operations. He is currently being held at the Federal Detention Facility in Batavia, New York, where he awaits removal proceedings from the United States.
