Calgary Police Lay Voyeurism Charges Following Disturbing Incidents
Calgary police have charged a 25-year-old Airdrie man with three counts of voyeurism following separate incidents at two popular Calgary retail stores. Benjamin Turcotte is accused of filming one woman and two girls without their consent during shopping trips earlier this year.
Incident Details Reveal Disturbing Pattern
The first reported incident occurred on June 30, 2025 at the SportChek location in Chinook Centre. According to police reports, a young girl was trying on clothes in a fitting room when she noticed a cellphone that had been deliberately slid under her door. The device was positioned to capture footage of her without consent.
The quick-thinking girl immediately alerted her mother, who then notified store staff. Management subsequently contacted the Calgary Police Service to file an official report, beginning what would become a multi-incident investigation.
Just weeks later, on July 19, 2025, a similar situation unfolded at the Winners store in Northland Village Mall. A woman entering a fitting room discovered a cellphone already positioned on the floor, clearly angled upward to record her. When she opened the door to investigate, she witnessed a man fleeing the store premises.
Police Investigation Uncovers Additional Evidence
Calgary police investigators reviewed comprehensive CCTV footage from both retail locations as part of their probe. The surveillance from Winners revealed particularly concerning behavior - the suspect appeared to have been following and filming a young girl for several minutes before the fitting room incident occurred.
After identifying Turcotte as the primary suspect, police executed a search warrant at his Airdrie residence. The search yielded significant evidence, including seven cellphones, a hard drive, and multiple other electronic devices that are currently undergoing forensic examination.
Police spokesperson Constable Chris Martin emphasized the seriousness of the charges, stating that "violations of personal privacy in what should be secure spaces are treated with the utmost importance by our service."
Court Proceedings and Public Safety
Benjamin Turcotte is scheduled to make his first court appearance on December 8, 2025. The Calgary Police Service continues to encourage anyone with additional information about these incidents or similar occurrences to come forward.
