Arrest Follows Frightening Hotel Intrusion in North York

Toronto Police have made an arrest in a disturbing incident at a North York hotel, where a Sudbury family faced a terrifying ordeal. The arrest comes just days after the family reported a man attempting to break into their room at the Holiday Inn Express on Norfinch Drive.

Suspect in Custody After Quick Police Action

According to authorities, Alberto Cosentino, a 42-year-old from the Toronto area, has been taken into custody. Police have not yet finalized the charges, but the suspect is expected to appear in court soon. The family involved, Glen Guitard and his wife Jessica McKerral, along with their two sons, expressed gratitude for the swift police response, noting that detectives informed them of the arrest within four days of the initial complaint.

The incident occurred early on a Sunday morning, when a man knocked on the hotel room door while carrying a green bag, resembling that of a food delivery person. Guitard initially thought it was a case of mistaken identity, but the situation escalated as the man tried to force his way into the room for approximately three minutes. Hotel surveillance footage later revealed the individual had been outside the door for a total of 13 minutes.

Family's Terrifying Experience During Youth Tournament

The Guitard family was staying at the hotel while in town for a youth basketball tournament. The intrusion happened just one night after another strange occurrence, where a 14-year-old girl, believed to be in an altered state, also knocked on their door. Hotel management has stated that the two incidents are likely unrelated, but Toronto Police are investigating both as part of their ongoing efforts to piece together the events.

Guitard described the experience as something out of a horror movie, emphasizing his concern for the safety of other families staying in hotels. He praised the police for their sensitivity and quick action in detaining a suspect known to the area.

Ongoing Investigation and Community Impact

While the arrest marks a significant development, the investigation continues as police work to determine the full scope of the incident. No charges have been tested in court yet, and authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.

This case has highlighted broader issues of hotel safety and security, prompting discussions about measures to protect guests in similar situations. The family's decision to speak out aims to raise awareness and prevent future incidents, ensuring that others do not face such frightening scenarios while traveling.
