A tragic hit-and-run collision in midtown Toronto has claimed the life of a 70-year-old woman, with police charging one driver but still searching for a second motorist who fled the scene.

Deadly Morning Collision on Eglinton Avenue

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning, December 31, 2025, around 7:15 a.m. Toronto Police report the collision happened on Eglinton Avenue East near Dunfield Avenue, located just east of Yonge Street.

According to investigators, the elderly woman had just finished grocery shopping and was crossing the street when she was first struck by a white Hyundai Venue travelling westbound. In a devastating sequence, the victim was then hit by a second vehicle travelling eastbound on Eglinton Ave. E. Both drivers allegedly fled the area without stopping.

One Arrest Made, Intensive Search for Second Driver

The injured senior was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries but succumbed to her wounds. Her identity has not been publicly released. This marks Toronto's 42nd road fatality of the year.

Several hours after the collision, around 11:30 a.m., 48-year-old Hamid Abdul of Toronto surrendered to police. He was arrested and now faces serious charges:

  • Dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death
  • Failure to stop at an accident scene causing death

Abdul is scheduled for a bail hearing on Friday. However, the investigation remains urgent as no description of the second vehicle has been released, and its driver is still at large.
