Former School Bus Driver Admits to Possessing Child Exploitation Material

A former school bus driver from the Stony Plain area has pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography, bringing a disturbing case closer to resolution. Jared Corbett, 36, entered his guilty plea on November 13, 2025, in an Edmonton courtroom, admitting to one count of possession of child pornography.

Investigation and Arrest Details

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team's (ALERT) Internet Child Exploitation unit began investigating Corbett in October 2023 after discovering that an unknown individual was sharing large quantities of child sexual abuse material online. Police successfully accessed the user's shared folder on a peer-to-peer file sharing service, where they downloaded samples of the illegal content.

Officers arrested Corbett on February 7, 2024, following a search of his parents' home in Stony Plain the previous day. During the search, police seized a computer and two cell phones that contained material matching what investigators had previously downloaded.

Disturbing Collection Revealed

According to prosecutor Craig Krieger, Corbett's collection included 171 videos and images classified as child pornography. The material featured children between the ages of three and ten being sexually abused. The collection also contained various cartoon hentai content depicting child exploitation.

In an agreed statement of facts presented to Court of King's Bench Justice Jody Fraser, Corbett was described as very cooperative with police and admitted to struggling with a pornography addiction.

Employment and Community Impact

At the time of his arrest, Corbett worked for a contractor operating buses for Parkland School Division. The division confirmed that his employer removed him from his route immediately and placed him on indefinite suspension following the charges.

ALERT had emphasized when announcing the charges that Corbett's position as a school bus driver placed him in a position of trust and authority. However, the agreed statement of facts contained no suggestion that Corbett offended against any students he transported.

Sentencing and Next Steps

The guilty plea came as Corbett was scheduled to begin trial on Thursday. He pleaded guilty to one of the three counts he originally faced. The 36-year-old remains free on bail and spoke only to confirm to the judge that he understood the consequences of his plea.

Defence lawyer John Sinclair indicated he will be seeking a pre-sentence report and revealed that a psychiatric assessment showed his client has many characteristics of autism spectrum disorder. Neither the Crown nor defence disclosed what sentences they will request during the court proceedings.

A sentencing date will be set following the completion of the pre-sentence report, at which point the court will determine Corbett's punishment for the child pornography possession charge.
